2025 MACB Young Scientist Awards (MACB-YSA) is Now Open!

The Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (MACB) invites applications for the 2025 MACB Young Scientist Awards (MACB-YSA). This prestigious award recognises outstanding contributions in Clinical Biochemistry & Laboratory Medicine and provides a platform for young scientists to share their research.

Objectives

  • To recognise young scientists’ contributions and achievements in research & development (R&D) in Clinical Biochemistry & Laboratory Medicine.
  • To encourage the enhancement of excellence, creativity and involvement in Science and Technology in young scientists.
  • As a platform to encourage young scientists to share their research findings both orally and in writing.

Eligibility / Criteria

  • Must be less than 40 years of age on 25th August 2025 (35th MACB & 49th MSBMB Annual Conference) in the year of submission.
  • Active Young Scientists under the age of 40 with active involvement in R&D Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in the past years.
  • Only one paper should be submitted for each candidate.
  • Papers that have won international awards in the past will not be accepted.
  • Three years cooling period for a previous MACB-YSA recipient is essential.
  • An applicant is eligible to apply for only one YSA announced for that particular year.
  • Participate in oral presentation for 35th MACB & 49th MSBMB Annual Conference
  • Open to member of Asia-Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB)
  • Must obtain a letter from the respective national society to prove their membership in APFCB

Application Requirements should contain

The selection process will take into consideration the requirement listed below:

  • Online application with relevant documents attached:
  • Applicant details.
  • Applicants shall get the endorsement from their institution of employment.
  • Abstract:
  • added value / R&D in Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine.
  • paper must be written and presented in English.
  • Please use only the abstract template provided during the submission.
  • Official photos of the award recipients may be used by the MACB for promotional purposes.
  • For winners (outside of Malaysia), a copy of the applicant's first page of their passport is required as identification.
  • Each applicant is permitted only ONE full paper submission.
  • The applicant must be the first author AND the presenting author of the abstract submitted.

All applications for the 2025 MACB-YSA must be submitted electronically, without exception, and must include all requested information via the link above provided.

Awardees Incentives

MACB Young Scientist Awards

Two (2) winners will be selected from all the abstracts submitted.

These 2 successful winners will be invited to attend 35th MACB & 49th MSBMB Annual Conference which will be held at M World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Prior to receiving the prize, the winners shall 

  1. a)   participate in the 2025 MACB Young Scientist Awards (oral presentation session)
  2. b)   submission of a full paper in the MACB Journal of Clinical Biochemists  (MJCB).

The winners will receive:

  • a certificate of award.

  • complimentary registration to attend the 35th MACB & 49th MSBMB Conference 2025.

  • expenses for travel and hotel accommodation for a 2-night stay, for a sum not exceeding MYR 2,000. All claims MUST be accompanied with receipts.

I was one of the recipients of the Young Scientist Award. I attended the two-day MACB Conference from 22nd to 23rd July 2024, and I must say it was exceptionally well-organised—truly an academic feast for laboratory professionals. The speakers were highly experienced and delivered excellent presentations. I gained a wealth of valuable information from experts such as Prof. Pavai and Dr. James Lim, to name a few. The venue was centrally located and easily accessible by various modes of transport, and the food was excellent.

I truly enjoyed every moment at the 34th MACB Conference.

Selection of Applicants for MACB-YSA

  • The MACB Awards Subcommittee will manage and execute the 2025 MACB Young Scientist Awards selection process.
  • The shortlisted nominees will be reviewed and ranked by the MACB Awards Subcommittee. The MACB council members will be notified of the final lists.
  • The judging panels will include independent representatives from the health industry, corporate, educator, researcher and experts with laboratory medicine background. The applicants’ written information will be used solely in the selection process.
  • The shortlisted applicant will be assessed by the judges following strictly with the selection criteria to determine the finalists. The judging panel's verdict is final.
  • If there’s any fraud/suspicion during the participation, the application may be disqualified/ terminated.
