Event Description

The Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (MACB) will host a pre-conference workshop focused on Method Verification ahead of the ICBMBLM2025 Conference. This half-day workshop brings together experienced professionals to cover key aspects of method evaluation in clinical laboratories. Topics include bias and imprecision, linearity, and common analytical errors flagged by external quality assessment programmes.

Participants will gain practical insights from esteemed speakers including Dr. Loh Tze Ping (Singapore) and Dr. Tony Badrick (Australia). Dr. Loh is a Senior Consultant and Research Director at the National University Hospital Singapore, while Dr. Badrick is the current President of APFCB and CEO of RCPAQAP, with extensive expertise in quality management.

Workshop Speaker 1:

Dr. Loh Tze Ping

Dr. Tze Ping Loh was born in Penang, Malaysia. He obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Penang Medical College, and undertook his fellowship (Royal College of Pathologists, UK) training in chemical pathology at the National University Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. He currently serves as Senior Consultant and Research Director at Department of Laboratory Medicine, National University Hospital, Singapore. His areas of interest include biomarker discovery and translational research, outcome research of established/ novel biomarker, paediatric general biochemistry and laboratory management. He is currently the Chair of the APFCB Scientific Committee and APFC Travelling Lecturer.

Workshop Speaker 2:

Dr. Tony Badrick

Dr. Tony Badrick is currently the APFCB President. He has two PhDs. One is in Quality Management in Healthcare and the second is in Pure Maths. He was Associate Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University for 4 years before becoming the CEO of the RCPAQAP in 2015. In the twenty one years from 1990, he was Manager of the Biochemistry department and then Laboratory Manager at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, Brisbane. Between 1973 and 1990, he worked at the Biochemistry Department of the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane after graduating from the Queensland Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Science. He is a visiting Fellow at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University and an honorary associate professor at Bond University. He was President of the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists (2003-2007) and was Chair of the Education and Laboratory Management Committee of the Asian Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry, Vice President of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists and currently the deputy Chief Examiner and Chair of the Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Dr. Tony has published over 120 Papers/ Abstracts and one book chapter (2 editions) in Health care management.
